The Vikings ended their season 5-5 after a victory under the lights in an evening game against the Loggers in Darrington last Thursday.
“The seniors battled hard and represented themselves well,” said Coach Scott Harris. “I am proud of them this season.”
The Vikings hosted the league leading LaConner Braves Saturday at Dahl field on Oct. 20 in a rough 40-0 loss that tested the Orcas team’s resilience, conditioning and inner strength.
The Vikings football team traveled to a very wet West Seattle Stadium on Oct. 13 and battled the Seattle Lutheran Saints to an exhilarating, turn-over filled, fourth quarter victory, 27-19.
The Lady Vikings lost a home game Oct. 6 to the Shoreline Christian Crusaders 3-1.
The Lady Vikings volleyball team outlasted its rival, the Friday Harbor Wolverines, for the second time this season, winning three games to one.
Their first game was versus Lopez and the Falcons won 4 -1.
The second game was Mt. Vernon Christian resulting in a 2-2 draw. It was a tough game and the team relied on the defensive midfield players and the back four defenders.
Working on a short field, Viking quarterback Daniel Briggs hit Devon Stanzione for a 5 yard TD reception. Defensive back Jack Gates, in his first game, intercepted another Warrior pass, allowing Briggs a few plays later to hit Rylan Date on a beautiful 35-yard TD reception, advancing the score 14-0 in the first quarter. After a Jack Russillo 45-yard field goal, slippery Stanzione diced his way 25 yards for the Vikings third TD of the quarter, pushing the lead to 24-0.
The Vikings football team traveled to Tacoma Baptist Sept. 21 for a league loss in an offensive shootout 64-37. Coach Scott Harris said it took until the second quarter for the Vikings to dial in their offense and move the ball, but after some adjustments, he said “it was off to the races” with the Vikings and Crusaders scoring on almost all possessions.
The Vikings next play Chief Leschi during a homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Dahl field.
The boys soccer team traveled to Cedar Park Christian on Sept. 19 and won their first match of the season, 3-2 against the Lions. Stolmeier said the scoring highlights were two perfect penalty kicks by Chase Drake and a brilliant goal from about 20 yards by Jack Russillo.
Sept. 7 was the season home opener ending in a 7-3 win versus Mount Vernon Christian. The team came together with some impressive passing combinations and goals with Lana Bronn scoring four in the back of the net and a hat trick by Brynna Gregg.
The Lady Vikings volleyball team traveled to Shoreline Christian last week and lost three sets to 0. Despite the loss, coaches Gregg Sasan and Hank Date saw promising individual performances and overall play improvement. However, a spectator summed up the coaches’ feelings when they said, “I saw six girls playing out there, but I didn’t see a team.”
