Orcas Choral Society selects new artistic director

Phil Burbo, President of the Board of the Orcas Choral Society, has announced the selection of Roger Sherman as the group’s new artistic director.

For more than 20 years, Sherman has been the associate organist of St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle and a member of the Cathedral choirs. As president of Loft Recordings, he has been executive producer for more than 100 recordings, which includes a Grammy nomination for best choral performance. For the past 15 years, he has also hosted The Organ Loft, an hour-long weekly radio program about choral and organ music, broadcast throughout Washington and Oregon and heard on Classic KING-FM (98.1). His involvement with choral music has been a major part of his musical life and he is looking forward to leading the Choral Society.

A native of Seattle, Sherman has been a full-time resident of Orcas for seven years. His son, Peter, is a graduate of Orcas High School, where his son, Erik, is a senior.

Sherman will succeed founder and long time artistic director Catherine Pederson, who will retire following the Choral Society’s spring concert in May.
