Environmental activist singer Dana Lyons to perform

Dana Lyons has added an Orcas stop to the fourth leg of his Three Legged Coyote tour through western Washington.

Along with Olympia, Whidbey Island, Woodinville, Mount Vernon, Snohomish, Rexville, Waldron, Lopez, and Shaw Islands, Lyons will perform at Doe Bay Resort on May 2 at 8 p.m. The show is free to the community but dinner reservations are required.

Lyons is a folk and alternative rock musician from Bellingham. One of his best known songs, “Our State Is a Dumpsite,” was proposed as the official state song to the legislature more than 20 years ago. In 1996, Lyons’ tune “Cows With Guns” played on Seattle’s Top 40 for 10 months.

Over the course of his career, Lyons has been known to say he’ll play anywhere once. In fact, Lyons’ career has taken him all over the United States, Australia, Ireland, England, New Zealand, Mexico, Kazakhstan, and Siberia as well as Washington state’s Hanford Nuclear Waste Dump.

Today, he says he’d still play most anywhere but he particularly loves coming to Orcas Island. Lyons last performed here New Year’s Eve.

“It’s a gorgeous place – the slow pace. I get to go hiking in Moran and see old friends and take a sauna at Doe Bay,” Lyons said.

When asked what to expect from his performance on May 2, Lyons guaranteed a spectrum of music, storytelling and humor.

“I’ll do a large variety of songs from all my albums. I visit a lot of amazing environmental and social activists around the world, and I’ll be telling their stories,” Lyons said.

Lyons is also the author of the children’s book “The Tree” that includes a forward by Jane Goodall.
