Holdfast Gutters Home Services launches on Orcas Island

Orcas resident Woodruff Boero has launched Holdfast Gutters & Home Services, offering bespoke seamless gutter installation, seasonal maintenance and home beautification services to island homeowners.

Boero moved to Orcas from Illinois in 2015, working at local restaurants including Roses Café and Mijitas, where he met his wife, Ashley. The couple later spent time off-island working on farms, serving as caretakers for adults with special needs and leading wilderness programs for youth before returning to Orcas to marry and start a family. They are now raising their son Edmond — known to some in the community as “Mondi.”

Since their return, Boero has worked construction on the island and is excited to now strike out on his own venture. Earlier in his career, he managed exterior maintenance for a 144-unit condominium complex in Lynnwood, Washington, where years of deferred maintenance had caused massive damage ahead of his arrival. “It impressed on me how essential regular cleaning and preventative care really are,” he has said. “Bad gutter health threatens a home from foundation to roof.”

Holdfast installs seamless gutters pressed on-site, along with rain guards, rain barrels, cisterns, rain chains and other accessories designed to fortify and beautify each homeowner’s personal holdfast.

“Whether it’s moss, roots, lichen, or leaves, the island is always trying to reclaim our built spaces,” Boero says. “My goal isn’t to dominate nature or be dominated by it — but to maintain a harmonious balance.”
