Friday, Oct. 28

• Fall festival and haunted hayride at Camp Orkila. 1-5:30 p.m.: Cider pressing, hot dogs, face painting, climbing wall, archery and more. Third graders and older can sign up for a spin on the zip line by calling 376-2678. 6 p.m.: Hayride around the farm for younger children. 6:45 – 8:30 p.m.: Haunted hayride departs every 20 minutes.

Saturday, Oct. 29

• At the Episcopal Church, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: costume contest, prizes for up to 8, 9 to 18 and family; pumpkin bowling; scarecrow making – a judged competition with prizes; face painting; balloon twisting; food and treats.

• At the Wildflour Bakery Garden, 2 to 4 p.m.: pumpkin carving contest, everything provided, including cookies. Prizes for: 4 to 8, 9 to 16, 17 and up.

• At Darvill’s Books, 4 to 5 p.m.: storytelling hour, with cookies.

• Teen Night Haunted House, 7-9 p.m., Funhouse Commons.

Monday, Oct. 31

• Downtown Eastsound, 3 to 5 p.m.: trick or treat.

• Family Harvest Carnival at the Orcas Island Community Church. Games, food (nachos, hot dogs and cotton candy), a bounce house for little ones, cake walk and more. All free.

• Don’t missing learning all about Mrs. Rice and Higgy the Bear, a real life story from the annals of Olga history, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Orcas Island Hysterical Museum. Special yummy treats: island-grown caramel/toffee apples on sticks, while they last!

• Kids’ trick or treat for books at the Orcas Library. Stop by to show off your Halloween costumes, have your picture taken and pick out a book from 3 to to 5 p.m.

• Halloween Dance, 8:30 p.m., Odd Fellows, $10 live band The Dustbunnies, with Bruce Harview and Dustin Fox. Free movie at 7 p.m.: Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein.”

Candy donations

Many of the community’s children visit OPAL neighborhoods on Halloween. Candy donations help offset costs. Donations can be dropped off at the OPAL office on the corner of Lover’s Lane and Enchanted Forest Road.
