Lobos Soccer defeat Orcas

The Lopez Lobos won against the Orcas Viking soccer team 2-1 on Saturday, Nov. 1 in a district playoff game that sends the Lobos to the playoffs. Coach Richard Tetu said, “My team went onto the field and played with such heart, you cannot imagine. Both teams wanted to win this one because of the stakes and I think Orcas was caught a little off guard seeing us come out and be so aggressive with the ball. But what really made it a great game for us was the level of commitment of my players.”

Charlie O’Neil scored both goals for the Lobos, assisted by a strong mid-field presence in Sebastian Lasbo, Brooke Schober, Nate Drahn, and Jamie Cummins. Arlen Coiley, goalie for the Lobos, had a game-saving dive and caught a Viking ball headed for a score in the last 30 seconds of the game.

The Lobos go onto tri-district and their first match on Tuesday, Nov. 4 will be against North Sound Christian. If the Lobos win that match, and win again on Thursday against an as-yet-undetermined team, they will play again on Saturday, Nov. 8, at state.
