Cross-country season update

The Orcas High School cross-country team has been competing since early September. At the Gear Up Northwest XC Preview in Bellingham, Orcas finished third out of 14 teams in the 2-mile JV boys’ race. Evan Kulper finished 15th out of 126; Theo Vaccarella was 18th: Finn Ontjes was 21st; and Ryan Krisch-Derr was 22nd. In the 2-mile junior girls’ race, August Moore finished 27th out of 88.

At the South Whidbey Invite on Sept. 17, the Vikings finished third out of 22 teams in the 5,000M JV boys’ race. Kulper finished 8th out of 248; Vaccarella was 10th; Krisch-Derr was 11th; and Ontjes was 12th. Moore finished 28th out of 186 in the girls’ race.

In the King’s Cross Invite in Shoreline on Sept. 24, Orcas was second out of 9 teams in the mens’ 3-mile JV. Kulper finished 14th out of 101; Krisch-Derr was 20th; and Vaccarella was 21st. Moore was 15th out of 72 in the women’s varsity competition.

On Sept. 28, the Vikings hosted a league home meet with Coupeville and Mt. Vernon Christian. In the men’s 5,000-meter varsity race, Kulper finished 4th out of 31; Ontjes finished 5th; Krisch-Derr finished 7th; and Vaccarella finished 8th. Moore finished first out of 13 in the 5,000-meter women’s varsity.

During the Nike Twilight Invitational in Marysville on Oct. 1, Kulper finished 89th out of 393 and Krisch-Derr finished 92nd in the men’s 5,000-meter junior/senior race. Moore placed 11th out of 199 in the women’s.
