Tell us what you think about advertising on the ‘tank’ | Editorial

We miss seeing community messages on Orcas Island’s old tank at the intersection of Olga Road and Crescent Beach Drive.

Do you think local businesses should be allowed to use the tank for advertisements?

We miss seeing community messages on Orcas Island’s old tank at the intersection of Olga Road and Crescent Beach Drive.

We recently noticed that a local business is advertising on the tank, which has long been used for non-profit event notices or to post personal messages, like birthday wishes or asking someone out to prom. It has not been used for business advertising.

In January 2010, we admonished supporters of the school bond and levy for its “Vote Yes for Our Schools” slogan painted on the tank. After our editorial, the message was taken down.

The tank is starting to feel just a little too commercial. We’ve stated our opinion – what’s yours? Take the poll featured in this story, or make a comment below. We’d love to hear what you have to say.
