The sixth and final opera of the Summer Encore series, Verdi’s “Don Carlo” from the award-winning program The Met: Live in HD, will stream on Friday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

“I think Don Carlo is the quintessential Verdi opera,” said Director Nicholas Hytner, who made his Met debut with this production of the composer’s epic drama of love and politics. “Right through it, there is, on the one hand, an implacable expression of impending doom and, on the other hand, a succession of the most gloriously open-throated arias, the most fantastically determined music.”

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Roberto Alagna in the title role, and Ferruccio Furlanetto, Marina Poplavskaya, Anna Smirnova, and Simon Keenlyside also star.

This performance of “Don Carlo” was originally transmitted live on December 11, 2010. The running time is three hours and 36 minutes.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $11 for students; $2 off for Orcas Center members. They may be purchased at www.orcascenter.org or by calling 376-2281 ext. 1.
