Student art exhibit at Orcas Center

Submitted by A-OK.

To celebrate our island youth, a six-week Student Art Exhibit is being hosted at the Orcas Center from May 3-June 12.

This annual show features art created in Art for Orcas Kids (A*OK) art classes, Kindergarten through 8th grade. Also featured are select pieces from the talented artists at Orcas Island High School. We hope to see you at the opening and artist reception on Friday, May 3 from 5-6:30 p.m. The High School art students will be giving brief talks about their work and these presentations should not be missed.

A*OK art projects this school year include polar bears, collages, painted clay Milagro hearts, pastel butterflies and flowers, Chiaozza sculptures, Basquiat portraits, student self portraits (inspired by renowned artists like Frida Kahlo), Gustav Klimt Golden Trees, Georgia O’Keeffe poppies, fork Yetis, texture creatures, sugar skulls plus unique 3-D creature sculptures.

Help us celebrate 10 years of A*OK programming at the Orcas Public Schools. For a decade, A*OK, has operated as a program of the Orcas Island Education Foundation and partners with the Orcas Island School District. Art is a state mandated core subject and the school district works with A*OK to provide a dedicated classroom and Certified Teaching Staff alongside our Teaching Artists. This spring A*OK will be in the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s 11th Annual Give Orcas Campaign from May 8-17 at www.giveorcas.org.

We hope you can join us at the upcoming EVERYTHING IS A*OK GALA & AUCTION! It’s Sunday, June 9 at 4:30 p.m. at Orcas Center. Tickets will be limited and go on sale May 1.
