James Beard Award Recognitions for Ursa Minor and Matia

The James Beard Foundation has announced the 2022 James Beard Award semi-finalists in its sought-after awards of recognition and two San Juan County restaurants are on the list. Congratulations to Nick Coffey at Ursa Minor on Lopez and the team at Matia on Orcas. Matia was selected as one of the Best New Restaurant semi-finalists and Coffey was selected as a Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific semi-finalist. Both restaurants reopen in the Spring after their winter break and welcome customers to join them in celebrating their unique and local cuisines.

Good Food Awards 2022: San Juan Sea Salt and Girl Meets Dirt

Each year the Good Food Foundation organizes selects award winners that are exceptional food crafters who top the charts in a blind tasting and meet the environmental and social responsibility standards of the Good Food Awards. Over 2,000 entries from all 50 states are submitted each year. This year the San Juan Islands have two proud local winners of Good Food Awards. San Juan Island Sea Salt for their chocolate salted honey caramels made with PNW honey and natural, mineral-rich salt harvested and dried in Friday Harbor. Girl Meets Dirt for their Italian Plum Shrub, a delicious beverage mixer made with heritage plums grown on Orcas Island. Great for cocktails and virgin mocktails – just add bubbly water.
