Firefighter Cadet honored

Orcas Christian School Sophomore and High-honor student Jamarra Ray Lowry, was honored for her completion of the Orcas Fire & Rescue Firefighter Academy.

Lowry graduated with honors on April 25 from the course, that she started in November of 2008.

Her father, Dave Lowry, was a volunteer firefighter with the department for several years.

Jamarra works each summer to pay for her high school tuition and plans to pursue a career in emergency services as a firefighter-paramedic.

“She had one of the best overall class attendance records,” Captain Maxx Jones said. “According to her instructors she took on extra duties and always had a good attitude. Training Division Chief Patrick Sheplar often commented on her ability to raise the spirits of her classmates.”

Jamarra was the only cadet in a class of more than 10 adult students.
