Launch party for local artist

Iolair will host a launch party for local artist Michael Lundgren’s new book “Glass Mountain” on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., with remarks at 5 p.m., located at 90 North Beach Road, Eastsound. Books are available for sale.
“Glass Mountain” is an uneasy meditation on transformation and the eerie sentience of the inanimate. These photographs depict places that seem to exist beyond the field of time, where stones hold memory, the earth hums with a silent awareness and landscapes confront us with their stark, unsettling beauty. Lungren is a photographic artist who has worked extensively in the deserts and mountains of the West and Mexico and now lives with his wife and daughters on Orcas. Drawn to the hallucinatory qualities of the natural world, he ventures deep into the wilder places of the Americas, searching for a hidden presence embedded in the land, and creating photographs that challenge our perception of reality. He has authored three books and was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 2017.
