Dec. 9: An Orcas Island man claims he was scammed out of $5,600 while attempting to purchase a tractor over the Internet. The 52-year-old reportedly sent the cash to the address of the presumed seller, located in Florida, but has seen no sign of the tractor and has not heard from the seller.

Dec. 16: A counterfeit $20 bill was found among the day’s receipts at an Orcas Island pizzeria. The owner of the Eastsound restaurant reportedly recalls two customers using a $20 bill to pay their check on that day.

Dec. 19: The bill for cleanup of a commercial building in Eastsound, splattered by nearly two-dozen shots from a paintball gun, will total about $200. Authorities and the owner of the Haven Road building are reportedly unsure when the vandalism occurred.

Dec. 23: A 1992 Honda Accord vanished from an Orcas Island church parking lot in an apparent case of theft. Valued at $2,500, the missing car had reportedly been left in the parking lot on School Road two days earlier because of heavy snow.

Dec. 24: A 1991 Eagle Talon disappeared from an Orcas Island airport parking lot in an apparent case of the theft. The vehicle, valued at $2,000, was reportedly last seen by its owner near the Fed Ex parking area on Nov. 15.

Dec. 29: A warrant led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man after his reported pounding on a next-door neighbor’s front door prompted an investigation at a North Beach Road apartment complex. The 40-year-old, wanted in connection with an alleged fishing violation, was taken into custody at about 8 p.m.

Jan. 1: A cardboard box used to ship a piece of computer hardware was among the many items of mail retrieved in an Orcas Island neighborhood following an apparent series of thefts. A homeowner on Eagle Ridge Road, in the Highlands neighborhood, turned in a large plastic bag containing opened and unopened items of mail. The computer hardware was to have been delivered to a home on Discovery Way.
