I wrote the following on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. I am 74, an elementary educator and a lifelong fan of all things Seuss. Until now.
You’ve heard the stories, which I’ve digested
and quite frankly, I’m disgusted
Old liberal Dr. Seuss
apparently included a drawing of a noose
In World War II the thing to do
was be against Hitler and the Nazis too
I’m ashamed and broken
now that history has spoken
and I will no longer pay tribute
to a man I dispute
Goodbye Dr. Seuss, you were a friend
but consider my last line the end
I can no longer do covers of your songs
after reading about your mistakes and wrongs
So rest in peace Old Man
I’m afraid you’ve lost a lifelong fan
