A $4.5 million dollar project will transform this road from a 50 foot wide undifferentiated strip of chip seal and gravel to a pedestrian-friendly street with curbs, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and designated parking spaces.

In a clear departure from the laidback, modest ambiance of Main Street and North Beach Road which features street trees and landscaping elements, the new Prune Alley celebrates its intersections with four crossing streets with quite elaborate brick-covered concrete, areas of brick, and overhead lighting.

The proposal has generated a robust community conversation which can be read at: https://theorcasonian.com/guest-opinion-if-you-love-and-appreciate-eastsound-listen-up/ , https://theorcasonian.com/council-takes-another-look-at-prune-alley-redevelopment/ , and https://theorcasonian.com/these-five-trees-will-be-cut-down-during-prune-alley-phase-one-improvement-project/
