The Red Cedar Circle will be hosting Johnny Moses at a gathering at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday, June 15, from 6-10 p.m. and Sunday, June 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. He will be offering teachings, stories and sharing his spiritual heritage by donation. There will be a potluck both days and a community giveaway on Sunday so bring what you would like to share. Everyone with an open heart is welcome, especially children and elders. Moses is a Northwest Coastal Salish Native American raised in the remote Nuu-chah-nulth village of Ohiat on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and then sent to many of the elders of the Si Si Wiss spiritual tradition (which originated in the San Juan Islands) to further his training. Moses has the traditional name Whis.Stem.Men.Nee (“Walking Medicine Robe”). His grandparents, Barney Guss and Ivy Guss, are from the Tulalip tribe near Marysville Washington and the relatives/ancestors of his mother lived on Orcas Island. Moses was a recipient of the 2012 Washington Governor’s Heritage Award and is a master storyteller, oral historian, traditional healer and respected spiritual leader.
