Carl Burger and the Tow Away Zone to perform

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, July 12, 2017

The music committee at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish will present Carl Burger/Tow Away Zone at the Brown Bag concert on Wednesday, July 19. Tish Knapp and Marj Franke will join Carl on stage.

Tish is an ice tea-drinking, watermelon-eating southern belle who has lived on Orcas for over 40 years. Marj calls herself a newcomer with deep roots who moved to the island full-time in 2009. Carl is a state park ranger turned Spring Bay innkeeper in 1992.

The three are delighted to welcome you to a half hour of musical blending, traditional with irreverence, editorializing with nostalgia, slapstick with serenity. This is gonna be fun!

Guitarist Carl offers an element of “quirkiness” with an opening solo recital, setting the stage for a collaboration with co-conspirators Tish and Marj.

The concert begins promptly at noon, and it is important to be seated by then, as the doors will be closed when the concert opens. There is no charge but donations are accepted to fund the Virgil Cleveland Memorial Scholarship program that sends deserving Orcas music students to summer music camps.
