Washington State University’s Beach Watchers class will be starting on April 2 for San Juan, Orcas and Lopez Islands. The classes provide 100 hours of high level instruction about marine surroundings, watersheds, uplands and marine life. Volunteers give back 100 hours of service in the areas of education, outreach, research assistance and stewardship.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., tailored to the spring ferry schedule, until May 21. There is a $100 class materials fee but no other costs (sliding scale can be applied). No previous experience is necessary.
