Following Olga Daze in July, we thanked a number of people and businesses who generously donated to this year’s Silent Auction. There were many others who contributed to the success of the day and also deserve a shout-out.
Thank you to the Lions Club members who came on short notice and put up their tent, protecting the yard sale from the rain, and thank you to Country Corner, who again donated ice to the food pavilion.
Thank you to the terrific musicians who entertained us: JP and The OK Rhythm Boys, The Parking Angels, and Marc Cohen and Carl Burger.
And thank you to Alexandra, Betty, Betty Jean, Candace, Cheryl, Carl, Chris, Dean, Dorothy, Felice, George, Irmgard, Jackie, Jan, Jane, Jenny, Joanne, Judy, Maria, Mark, Merry, Noel, Pat, Paul, Robbie, Sam, Stefan, Tina, Tom and all the other wonderful volunteers.
We are happy to announce another island event to be held in the Olga Energetic Clubhouse on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. One of our Olga quilters, Betty Marcum, has graciously agreed to bring handmade quilts from her large, personal inventory for sale on this day. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Building Fund of the Olga Community Club.
Betty and her sisters Dorothy Lundquist and Judy Slater were encouraged to take up quilting by their mother, Lucille Willis, in about 1975. When asked how many quilts she has made over the years, Marcum replied, “probably between 300 and 400.” This will be a rare opportunity to be able to choose a quilt from her collection.
The sale will also include: fabric; table linens; bedding, pillows and bolsters; teddy bears and soft dolls; and craft items. There will be one “Treasure Table” with items rescued from closets where they may have been hiding for years, and being Olga, there will also be yummy baked goods for sale.
