Orcas Trailblazers club kids qualify for state fair

The Orcas Island Trailblazer 4H Horse Club captured a passel of awards at the August county fair, many qualifying to continue on to the Washington State 4-H Fair competition.

The Orcas Island Trailblazer 4H Horse Club captured a passel of awards at the August county fair, many qualifying to continue on to the Washington State Fair 4-H competition.

Stankevich took overall high point performance rider and her horse, Rockn’ Storm Dancer, took overall high point performance horse. By taking first place in Dressage/Equitation Over Fences, first place in Performance, and fourth place in Western Games, Stankevich also qualified to represent San Juan County at the Washington State Fair in those areas.

Hannah Brunner-Gaydos received her Platinum Showmanship Medal in Performance Showmanship.

That’s quite an accomplishment; very few 4H members accomplish this prestigous medal,” said 4-H coordinator Lorena Stankevich. Brunner-Gaydos also qualified to attend the state fair by taking second place in Performance and third place in Western Games.

Sierra Morrison qualified by taking first place in Western Games and fourth in Performance. Hailey Crowe qualified with a second place in Dressage/Equitation Over Fences.

Our club members will be representing San Juan County at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup from Sept. 15-Sept. 25. Come cheer us on!” said Lorena.

Madden Shanks, Marina Steinbrueck, Gavin Guard, Jade Cooper-Yockers, MacKenzie Brown, Derrek Buffum, and Hanifah McGovern also qualified to compete at the state fair.
