A Vancouver Sun article this week traces the roots of eminent classical pianist and summertime Orcas Islander Jon Kimura Parker, who together with his wife Aloysia Friedmann founded the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival fourteen years ago.

Despite a Juilliard education and spending the last 12 years creating music in the Lone Star state, BC-born Parker still proudly identifies himself as Canadian, quipping, “I certainly pay a lot of Canadian taxes.”

The 15th annual festival is scheduled for Aug. 10-26, 2012.
