The Orcas Garden Club is presenting Jeffri Coleman and Michael Rivkin of Crow Valley Pottery at their April 18 meeting, 10 a.m. in the Madrona Room of Orcas Center. Their topic will be “Gardens: Art and Form.” These artists excel in the area of garden decoration at their “Cabin” on Orcas Road and the Crow Valley Pottery Shop in town. Coleman is an artist and potter respected for his fresh and inventive works. Rivkin is a wood carver, and has become a master at tile and mosaic. They have both created a beautiful garden at their historic homestead featuring whimsical garden art, ornamental shrubs and perennials, including many unusual plants imported from Europe. The garden was featured on the Garden Club Garden Tour last year.
They also anchor a gallery, which features renditions of as many as 80 artists in woodcuts, engraving, pottery, yard art, metalwork, sculpture, jewelry, art glass, watercolors, oils and pastels, and Asian antiques. The shop’s “Summer Show Series” have become island events in their own right. This year’s event will showcase several artists’ creations of critters to adorn the “gardenscapes.” Varied inspirations from the homestead gardens to the town shop will be discussed in the upcoming meeting
