An update from Councilman Rick Hughes regarding coronaviru

by Rick Hughes

San Juan County Council, District#2

I wanted to update the community and let everyone know that there still is not a positive test result in the county. Please visit the link below for up-to-date information on the current health situation in the county. This is a really good resource.

Yesterday, San Juan County declared a State of Emergency. Please do not be concerned, this declaration allows San Juan County and our residents access to federal, state and local assets and will help us move forward once this passes.

San Juan County has 40-50 dedicated people working really hard in EOC incident command, preparing and working on plans to help the community.

If any of you have questions about anything, please send me an email: rickh@sanjuanco.com, I will do my best to respond to you as fast as possible. Let me know if you want to meet or speak on the phone. Over the next week, I will be in Eastsound and Friday Harbor, walking around, visiting, shopping and answering questions. Please say hi if you see me.

If there is a rumor, a fear or a question, I will do my best to answer or find an answer quickly.

The County will not shut down, ferries will continue to serve our community, our stores will still have product and we will continue to be the amazing community that we all love.

As I know you have heard many times, please follow these simple steps:

* Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds as often as possible

* Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when possible

* Practice Social distancing and keep six feet separation

* Avoid crowds of 10+ people

* Stay home if you’re sick

* Check on your neighbors

For the most accurate and timely information, please visit the San Juan County website.

Please consider spending time in town and supporting local business, if you’d rather stay home consider a gift certificate over the phone or online. We will all weather this storm together, as we islanders always do, but we need to pitch in and help each other out.

Thank you all, be safe and let me know if you have any questions.
