In a non-league home opener, the Orcas Vikings lost two games out of five to the evenly matched Mt. Vernon Christian Hurricanes in a hard-fought battle.
Coming off state playoff experience last year and touting 11 seniors, the Vikings initially looked sharp, taking the first game 25-23. However, the Vikings began to have trouble with their serves and lost the second game, 12-25. After Orcas won the third game and narrowly losing the fourth, the Vikings battled unforced errors in the final game loss.
The Vikings play Sept. 10 at Shoreline Christian, Sept. 11 at Friday Harbor and Lopez at home Sept. 14. Check http://www.nw1a2bathletics.com website for scores.
