Boosters get matching funds

The following was submitted by the Orcas Island Booster Club.

Webster’s Dictionary states that competition and cooperation are antonyms.

The Orcas Island Booster Club and a very generous member of our community would like to offer a different perspective.

On Wednesday, June 20, the Orcas Island Booster Club and Orcas Island School District received an offer from an anonymous donor presenting us with a competition that requires cooperation in order to achieve success.  The offer is a simple one: raise $10,000 for Orcas Athletics and it will be matched with a $10,000 donation for fall sports!

And while we haven’t even wrapped up the current school year, with this challenge in place, the Orcas Island Booster Club is officially kicking off its fundraising campaign for the 2012-2013 school year.

Your donation today will do twice as much to keep our student athletes active, promote academic excellence and help maintain programs that serve over 65 percent of the student population in our middle and high school.

To help us rise to this challenge and to follow our progress, visit www.orcasboosters.org.  You can donate online, mail your contribution to P.O. Box 217 Olga, WA 98279 or simply stop one of our board members on the street!
