Lions Health Screening – worth the effort | Letter

Published 11:00 am Tuesday, June 5, 2012

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the many individuals who contributed their time and effort to make the Lions Health Screening on May 7 and 8 possible. Over 182 man-hours went into this project. A huge thanks to the following Lions for their help during the event: Jim Biddick, Bill Buchan, Melissa Halwax, Pam Harney, Toby Hiller, Mike Jonas, Leif, John Lofland, Paul Losleben, Dave McPeake, Kim Rose, Linda Tretheway, Mac Trunkey, Carol Vinent-Hall, Diane Whitley, Patrick Whitley, Ed Zimmerman and non-lion Jen Bentley. Thanks guys. We couldn’t have done it without you.

A special thanks to the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing for sponsoring the “Van.” The Screening Unit crew, Mike and Pat Parker, who travel all over Washington and western Idaho and made this event possible.

I would like to convey my thanks to the Sounder for getting the message out about our event.  If the community doesn’t find out about us, all our efforts are in vain. Last, but most important, I would like to thank the community who participated in the event. One hundred and fifty two islanders, including eight children, turned out and made our efforts worthwhile.

For those of you who discovered potential health problems, I hope you follow-up with the appropriate care. If we can help just one person prevent an emergency or improve their health status, it was all worth the effort. If you missed this year’s screening, look for us next year!
