Winter chinook fishing reopens in the San Juan Islands just in time for Resurrection Derby

The San Juan Islands Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers will hold its “Resurrection Derby” on Dec. 1-3 in Friday Harbor.
According to the Times’ story, “the best places [to fish] are the north end of Orcas Island at Point Thompson, Point Doughty and Parker Reef, Eagle Bluff and Tide Point area, Thatcher Pass, Lopez Pass, Point Lawrence and Spring Pass.”
The fishing derby supports salmon enhancement projects. Entry is limited to 100 teams of up to four anglers per boat, and costs $400. First prize nets $10,000.
