Library has 20-year staff anniversary | Letter

I’m writing to recognize Kathy Lunde’s 20 years of working at the Orcas Island Public Library, and to invite community members to add comments to a book that we will have on hand this month for the occasion.

Kathy joined the library on July 16, 1991, not long after the district was formed, and well before any other members of our current staff. We rely on her to be our institutional and island memory. Also, of course, she performs day-to-day work that includes such responsibilities, among others, as managing our adult collection; recruiting, training, and coordinating more than 40 volunteers; publicizing our programs and services; setting up displays; and scheduling author visits.

I can hardly imagine the degree of endurance and focus required to contribute with such consistent productivity for so many thousands of hours. When you next visit the library, please join me in thanking Kathy for her contributions; and add your comments to the book near the front desk.
