Student briefs

• Kathleen Kline, Orcas High School class of 2003, has been admitted to the Juris Doctor program at the University of Washington School of Law, for the fall 2010 entering class.

• The following students from Orcas Island have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Washington for Winter Quarter:

Madeline Woods Bredouw, a senior, and Anthony Robert Ghazel, a sophomore.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must have completed at least 12 graded credits and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (out of 4).

• Conrad V. Wrobel was awarded a $1,500 Washington State Broadcasters Scholarship from the Washington State University Edward R. Murrow College of Communication.

To receive this scholarship, students must be certified in communication, be in good academic standing, and preference is given to those involved in student organizations related to broadcasting.

Wrobel graduated from Orcas Island High School in 2007 and received his associate degree from Whatcom Community College. He is currently studying broadcast news and film studies at WSU and is expected to graduate in May 2011.

He is the son of Laura Wrobel of Eastsound and the late Craig Wrobel.

Wrobel is a member of the Wazzu Films Club. He was the stunt choreographer and artistic consult for the film “WZU: Washington Zombie University” and the assistant director and male lead in the film “Bosnian Rubber Ducky.” Wrobel was also a lead author on the published academic paper, “Barack the Vote: A New Generation of Campaign Contributions.”

He is also a member of the Northwest Kyokushinkai Dojo in Pullman. Wrobel placed second in the men’s lightweight division in the padded knockdown style at the 2009 Kyokushin Challenge Regional Tournament.
