San Juan County announces departure of Community Development Director

Submitted by San Juan County.

As of Friday, May 5 San Juan County’s Director of Community Development, David Williams, is no longer employed at San Juan County. The County is appreciative of the contributions David has made during his tenure, but at this point, the vision for the department does not align and the decision to part ways was made.

As San Juan County seeks a new Director of Community Development, several County staff will be lending interim support. The Health and Community Services Director, Mark Tompkins, will act as interim director. He will be supported by several key staff. Recruitment for a new director is already underway.

The County acknowledges the current permit backlog is sizeable, however, permits must be processed in accordance with all of the County’s adopted development codes and environmental regulations. DCD is committed to providing planning and permitting services in a responsive and respectful manner.
