Renaissance man John Largess presents online cooking class

by the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival

Miró Quartet violist and chef extraordinaire John Largess will entertain Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival’s online audience with a free livestream cooking class, where he will teach viewers how to prepare chicken pot pie. He’ll show us how to make the rough puff pastry crust and the filling from scratch, and he’s also including a version for vegetarians. This is a free online event, but tickets are necessary. The event is on Sunday, April 11, at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at oicmf.org.

Largess is an exquisite musician and, as anyone who has attended his lectures at past Orcas Island Chamber Music Festivals knows, he is also a fabulous speaker. Now you have the chance to enjoy his oratorical skills while learning to bake this most classic of comfort foods!

Largess enjoys preparing sumptuous foods, especially French pastries and fine desserts. A true renaissance man, he has a background in Greek and Latin literature and graduated from Yale University with a degree in archaeology. He also studied at the Hebrew University in Israel and participated in archaeological excavations in Greece, Israel and Jordan before returning to the viola and focusing on his chamber music career. Largess is a trained yoga instructor, having studied Vinyasa Power Yoga with Baron Baptiste. He also practices Kundalini, Bikram, and Astanga yoga styles and teaches yoga in Austin, Texas, where he lives. When not standing on his head, he enjoys making his Tibetan Singing Bowl sing.
