Officials in British Columbia have asked for information which could determine if there is a connection between human remains found in San Juan County in 2007 and a human foot recovered with a shoe on Valdes Island more than a year later.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Ferries Division will begin operating its third vessel – Klahowya – with a biodiesel fuel blend on Saturday, July 19. The Klahowya will operate on a five percent blend (B5) of tallow-based biodiesel and ultra-low sulfur diesel (95 percent).

The County Council has affirmed the designation of Bob Myhr, Council Member, District 6, as the San Juan County watershed representative on the Puget Sound Partnership Salmon Recovery Council. The San Juan County Marine Resources Committee (MRC) had requested the Council’s support for the appointment which, under state law, the MRC, as the local Salmon Recovery Citizens Advisory Group, is responsible for making.

Mount Vernon-Dave Quall, 40th District representative has announced his official endorsement of 40th District Senate candidate Ken Henderson. Dave Quall has been representing the 40th District for some 14 years and is now the chair the House Education Committee, which considers kindergarten through twelfth grade (K-12) educational policy and finance issues. Previously, Representative Quall served 38 years teaching, coaching and counseling both at Mount Vernon High School and at Skagit Valley College.
