Orcas Family Health Center receives $15,000 grant

The Orcas Family Health Center, OFHC, received a $15,000 grant from Washington Health Information Collaborative to improve their Health Information Technology system.

The funding is for the purchase and implementation of a graphic software module and associated hardware to enhance the current system which increase functionality through improved connectivity and more complete transition to fully electronic health records.

OFHC is the only nonprofit clinic and Rural Health Center on Orcas Island who provides health care to all regardless of ability to pay.

Compared to many clinics on the mainland, OFHC fills a niche on Orcas Island by providing much-needed services to islanders and visitors, particularly the less affluent.

Since OFHC is located on Orcas, and accessible only by boat or plane, this system will avoid significant delays in sending and receiving health information and will help achieve OFHC’s goal of improving patient care.
