Montessori serving up apple pies

Orcas Montessori will be holding their second annual Apple Pie Sale.

What better way to enjoy a delicious apple pie this holiday season?

Parents and friends use organic ingredients and Orcas Montessori orchard heirloom apples in this All-American dessert. The pies are frozen and ready to bake.

Organizers encourage Orcas residents to buy extra to have on hand for guests, holiday dinners, hostess gifts, or for that special treat.

Pies are $25 each. All the money raised goes to the Orcas Montessori Pre-School program.

For more information contact Teresa Chocano at 376-5350 or teresa@orcasmontessori.org.

Light up the Lopez village for holidays

The Holiday Village Lighting Ceremony is a perfect way to usher in the season: listen to carolers, snack on baked goodies, and sip cider around bonfires.

The annual Lopez event will be on Friday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the Village Park.

Hot cocoa, cider and cookies will be provided by the chamber.

Visitors can warm themselves around fire pits and participate in Christmas caroling.

Many village stores will be open late to help welcome in the holiday season.

This year’s Grand Lopezian award goes to a Lopez couple, Jamie and Lauren Stephens.

Members of the Lopez Chamber board will turn on the lights to herald the event.

At the sound of a siren, merchants will illuminate their businesses and holiday displays and the entire village will come alive with a festive atmosphere. Lopez Island Chamber of Commerce sponsors the ceremony.

Legion hosts its annual

big bazaar

The American Legion Auxiliary Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the American Legion Post, 793 Crescent Beach Drive, Eastsound, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are several booths of local arts and crafts, as well as the auxiliary’s bake sale.

The popular Soup Bistro will be open during the bazaar, serving split pea and vegetable soups with fresh cornbread for $5. Gingerbread with whipped cream is available for $1.

The auxiliary has a raffle each year for three beautiful baskets; the theme of the baskets is kitchen, bath, and Christmas.

The auxiliary members donate all the items for the baskets and they are assembled by Barb Weiberg.

This year, in addition to the baskets, there is a hand-crafted plant stand, donated by Steve Kastelitz.

Raffle tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. Tickets may be purchased at Island Market on Friday Nov. 28 and Friday Dec. 5, and are available for purchase at the American Legion after 4 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays.

The drawing will be held at the bazaar at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6.

All proceeds from the bazaar support the auxiliary’s veterans programs and local community programs.
