Orcas Grange to present The Dixie Swim Club

The Actors Theater of Orcas Island announces a script-in-hand presentation of the new play “The Dixie Swim Club” at the Grange. The play is about five Southern women whose friendship began on their college swim team who set aside a long weekend each year to recharge their friendship. Every August they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to laugh, catch up and meddle in each others lives. “The Dixie Swim Club” focuses on four of these weekends over a period of 33 years.

This play, first produced last year, was written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten who have written several popular plays, including “Dearly Departed.”

The play features Mary Bayley as the super organized team captain; Patty Monaco as Lexie who enjoys being married – over and over again; Louise Carnachan, the wise-cracking overachiever, a career dynamo who can’t seem to get her personal life going; Melinda Milligan as the self-deprecating Vernadette, straight out of a country song who has embraced the chaos of her life, and Suzanne Gropper as the sweet, eager-to-please nun who finds a new calling. This play is directed by Doug Bechtel.

There will be just three performances on Friday, Aug. 15, Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or at Darvill’s Book Store. For additional information contact Doug Bechtel at 317-5601.
