Editor’s note: The following is a paid advertisement.

Dear Orcas Community,

In this time of great uncertainty, we are reminded of the importance of nourishing ourselves and our loved ones, of the spokes on the wheel that support our own vitality, and in doing so, support the resilience of our community as a whole. Access to fresh, vital vegetables and fruits, grown where you live, walk, breathe is essential to well being.

The Morning Star Farm team is committed to growing an abundance of local produce for islanders. We are currently busy planning and planting and are excited to share all that we grow with the Orcas Community!

This season we are offering a Produce CSA, Flower CSA, and have Plant Starts available for home gardens.

If you or someone you know would benefit from a CSA share, yet cannot afford it at this time, please let us know. We are working with Orcas community organizations to ensure that what is grown on our farm is accessible to the community at large. Email msfarmorcas@gmail.com for more details.

PRODUCE CSA

By signing up for a Produce CSA, you will receive a box of produce each week highlighting what is in season. Family Shares and Half Shares available.

To start in mid-June, your Morning Star Produce CSA will include the following crops and rotate among varieties within each crop: Salad Mix, Head Lettuce (Red and Green, six varieties), Rainbow Chard, Kale (three varieties), Sugar Snap Peas, Strawberries, Carrots, Beets, Radishes, Cilantro, and Parsley.

Beginning in July and extending through September/October, your box will evolve to include more heat-loving crops like Tomatoes (cherry, heirlooms, slicers), Basil, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Green Beans, Sweet Peppers, Garlic, Onions and later Fall crops such as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, and Winter Squash.

We plan to grow a diversity to share and will include other exciting edible delights such as Garlic Scapes, Eggplant, Celery, Corn, Plums and Melons when we have them!

If you are in need of produce in the meantime, find us through the Orcas Co-op, and stay tuned as we establish our Morning Star Farm Stand.
