The Orcas Island Garden Club held a leaf and flower pressing workshop at the library on Nov.12. Seven club members processed a variety of leaves and flowers using presses designed for use in microwave ovens. Instead of the 3 to 4 weeks needed to dry using traditional flower presses, the items were pressed, dried, and ready to mount after only a few minutes of microwave heating. Participants made bookmarks, drinks coasters, and other decorations. This members-only workshop will resume in the Spring.
