Fall line-up at Orcas Center

Orcas Center will present 10 dynamic events during the autumn months, ranging from flamenco dance to Western Swing and celtic fiddle music to Louisa May Alcott. Video and audio samples of these performances may be experienced on Orcas Center’s new website.

September

Over Labor Day weekend, Dallas Brass returns with a performance for the entire family. This event is priced accordingly — all tickets to the September 5 show are $10.

The Celtic Fiddle Festival, representing internationally-renowned musicians from Ireland, Brittany (France) and Quebec, including Kevin Burke of The Bothy Boys, will premiere at Orcas Center on Friday, September 17.

To benefit Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services (DVSAS), Orcas Center hosts the return of LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends on September 25. Bell’s memorable songwriting and contagious brand of rock and funk had everyone on their feet dancing the last time they played Orcas Center.

October

Orcas Center and Orcas A Cappella Singers will host 11 members of the Zedashe Ensemble during their U.S. tour. From the Republic of Georgia, this troupe has kept alive the monastic and folk song and dance traditions that were almost extinguished during Community rule in Caucasus Georgia. Zedashe performs on Sunday, October 3.

Orcas Horns, featuring eight of the island’s finest musicians, will perform on Saturday, October 9.

The legendary, nine-time Grammy winning Western Swing band, Asleep at the Wheel, returns to Orcas on October 23 for two shows. The $50 ticket for the early show buys a BBQ dinner.

November

An all local production of the Louisa May Alcott classic, Little Women will run for six performances, October 28-30 and November 4-6, in Orcas Center’s OffCenter Stage.

On November 12, the Seattle Opera’s Young Artists return with a fully-staged production of the Donizetti farce, Viva la Mamma.

Flamenco Rosario is among the finest flamenco dance and music in Western Canada. The troupe will visit Orcas Island for the first time to perform Flamenco Ayer y Hoy on November 20.
