Catch a special screening of the superhero event of the summer, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” on Wednesday, July 27.  The premiere of this movie is a fundraiser to support the scholarship programs of two Orcas Island camps: Four Winds and Camp Orkila.

“Captain America: The First Avenger” focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the super soldier known as Captain America. Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

Joe Johnston, son-in-law of Orcas resident Harlan and Anne Pederson, directs the film.

Proceeds from the premiere will go to the Four Winds Camp and Camp Orkila financial aid programs. Every year, Four Winds provides 20 percent of all campers with scholarships. Camp Orkila supports 25 percent of its campers with financial aid.

Many campers receiving scholarships at Four Winds and Camp Orkila come from Orcas Island.

“Were it not for these opportunities, our island children might not be able to attend two exceptional summer camps,” said camp representatives.

The screening begins at 6 p.m. at the Seaview Theater.  Tickets are $25 per person and include popcorn and a soda or $75 for a family of four (also includes popcorn and soda). Tickets are available at the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce or by calling 376-2277.
