Planned overnight power outages for San Juan Island district May 26-27

OPALCO’s District 1, including San Juan Island, Brown, Henry and Pearl Islands, will experience a planned power outage beginning at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 and ending by 4 a.m. on Friday, May 27.

OPALCO says the planned outage is necessary for the line crew to work safely on the Pear Point Substation as part of a major renovation project that will improve system reliability.

As members are responsible for their own equipment, OPALCO encourages all members to install surge protection to safeguard electronic, computer and other sensitive equipment and appliances.

“To prepare for the outage, members may want to turn sensitive electronics and equipment off at the surge protector, or unplug them completely, and keep a flashlight handy,” say OPALCO representatives.
