One Laptop per Child (OLPC) has come to Orcas Island. The bright green and white XO laptop, created at MIT, is being distributed to children all over the world via laptop.org.
OLPC Orcas, a local extension of this outreach effort, acquires and donates XO laptops to the Orcas Elementary School.
OLPC Orcas strives to level the playing field by assisting children with genetic, family system and/or economic disadvantages.
Orcas Elementary currently has five XO laptops. Once a week, a group of third and fourth grade students meets in Suzanne McClure’s classroom.
OLPC Orcas is looking for a volunteer director to help advance the program. Qualified individuals who have an interest, time, passion and a willingness to learn are encouraged to submit an application.
More information about the program is available at olpc-orcas.org.
