Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival is thrilled to welcome violinist and educator Monique Mead back to Orcas beginning Monday, October 17, as Musician-in-Residence for five exciting days of ensemble coaching, private and public music mentorship, professional workshops, and so much more.
Director of Music Entrepreneurship and Assistant Teaching Professor at Carnegie Mellon School of Music, Mead also has a wide-ranging international career as a violinist and collaborator, and has performed in the OICMF summer festival numerous times since her first visit in 2004. Monique will begin her residency in the public schools, working with music students of all ages and abilities. Over the course of several days, Mead will be mentoring students in areas of musicianship and musical performance.
Also, on Monday afternoon, Mead will serenade patrons in some of Eastsound’s bustling hotspots with “Random Acts of Music.” There’s no set schedule for these pop-ups, so if you’re lucky, you’ll be in the right place at the right time!
On Tuesday, October 18, Mead will offer personalized coaching to acoustic music ensembles in the Orcas Christian School Chapel, where she will work with each group on all aspects of their performance and presentation. The event begins at 3 p.m., and admission is free to all participants. Contact mary@oicmf.org or phone 360-376-6636 before 5 p.m. Oct. 17, to sign up.
On Thursday, October 20, musicians who haven’t picked up their instruments in a while are bound to enjoy Mead’s “Getting Your Groove Back” free talk at 7 p.m. at the Orcas Island Public Library.
