Photography expert to review locals’ work

World-renowned photography expert Jeanne Falk-Adams will review photography portfolios as part of the Visual Arts Museum and Westcott Bay Institute’s 2009 lecture series “Art as a Voice.”
San Juan County photographers are invited to apply for the portfolio reviews. Six finalists will be selected by Art Wolfe of Public Broadcasting fame for the January 31, 2009 review.
Entry forms for the portfolio review are available online at www.westcottbay.org/adams. Deadline for applications is January 8, 2008. Six finalists will be notified by January 15, 2009. San Juan County resident finalists will receive their portfolio review free of charge; finalists from other areas will pay $300 for the review.
Jeanne Falk Adams is CEO of The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park, a 104-year-old family business. Through her 25 years with the gallery, she has designed and directed photography exhibitions, symposia and workshop. She is a much-sought-after reviewer, juror, lecturer and advocate for creative photography.
Adams has served on the boards of art museums and higher education institutions and been actively involved in environmental activities. She is a trustee with the University of California Press Foundation and the Central California Futures Institute. She is also a board member of the University of California, Merced.
Born in the Oakland Hills of California in 1938, Adams received her BA in History from California State University, Fresno, in 1961. She completed her Master of Arts in Education degree at Stanford University in 1994. She currently resides in Fresno and Carmel, California.
Jeanne will be accompanied by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Michael Adams. Dr. Adams will present a lecture on the personal and artistic life of his famous photographer father, Ansel Adams, on January 30, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the San Juan Community Theatre.
