The San Juan County Council voted unanimously to change the speed limit on an Eastsound stretch of road and in the Deer Harbor Hamlet.

The San Juan County Council voted unanimously to change the speed limit on an Eastsound stretch of road and in the Deer Harbor Hamlet.

Driving on Orcas Road into Eastsound, the speed limit has been changed from 20 to 25 miles per hour all the way to Mt. Baker Road until it switches to 35 MPH.

“That area has always been a speed trap,” said Orcas Councilman Rick Hughes. “I’ve been trying to get this changed for the past three years.”

Driving through Eastsound and onto Crescent Beach Road, the speed limit is still 20 MPH.

In the Deer Harbor Hamlet, the council approved changing the speed from 25 to 20 MPH to make it safer and discourage speeding.
