Acclaimed local musician Bruce Harvie and his band will play a benefit concert on Monday, July 25 for longtime community member and friend John Barnes of Olga.

Jim Passer, owner of The Lower Tavern, has offered his venue for the cause. The music begins at 6 p.m. The suggested cover charge is $10.

Barnes has recently been dealt a series of major medical setbacks and all funds raised at this event will go to help pay his rapidly mounting bills.

Event organizers Anne Ford and James McGrath are anticipating a fun-filled night of coming together as a community with a special focus on helping a friend in need.

“John Barnes’ greatest joy in life is helping others,” said Ford. “Whether you know him personally or not, we hope every islander will now come to his aid – every little bit helps.”

An account at Islanders Bank in Eastsound has been set up in Barnes’ name. Donations can be dropped off in person at 475 Fern St. or mailed to: Islanders Bank, Attention John Barnes Fund, P.O. Box 699, Eastsound, WA 98245-0699.
