Sen. Ranker ‘proud’ to be part of marriage equality hearing

Kevin Ranker: "I was proud to sit in on the committee hearing today to listen to testimony from the public on a bill that will create full marriage equality in our great state."

Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, released this statement following the conclusion of a senate hearing on marriage equality and after the announcement of a secured 25th vote, enough to pass the measure in the state Senate:

“I was proud to sit in on the committee hearing today to listen to testimony from the public on a bill that will create full marriage equality in our great state.

“I want to thank those who took the time to travel from Whatcom and Skagit counties to Olympia to share their moving stories with us.

“I also want to thank Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, who shortly after conclusion of the hearing announced her intent to vote for marriage equality. Her support is truly courageous and represents the 25th and final vote needed to pass this bill into law.

“While we are not yet done, today we are one step closer to achieving equality for all Washingtonians.”
