On March 13, three members of the Orcas Island Fire and Rescue team participated in the Columbia Towers Stair climb to raise money for cancer research.

Will Marlow, Kat Barnard and Kasey Jo Weigle (remotely) all climbed 69 floors,1356 steps and 788’ in elevation in under 40 minutes! Each firefighter had to raise over $300 to be eligible and altogether OIFR raised over $1000 for cancer research for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The annual fundraiser tests the strength, stamina and determination of over 1000 firefighters from Boston to Seattle.

“Halley (Parnell) Evenson, who grew up on Orcas and graduated from the Orcas Christian School, participated with the Billings Fire Department in Montana, where she is an engineer.
