Regarding Veterans Day | Letter

It’s that time of year again, Veterans Day. Veterans Day is always a mixed bag for me.

People see my “Vietnam Veteran” hat and want to thank me for my service. While I appreciate their sincerity, it just opens old wounds. I went to Vietnam as a green kid and came back a bitter, old man.

Instead, look me in the eye and give me a warm smile and a glad hand and say “Welcome home!” That would make my day.
