The Orcas Elementary School Science Club’s next community winter low-tide night walk is fast approaching.
The walk will begin at 8 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 22.
“Headlamps, cameras, and warm clothes are in order!” said organizer Russel Barsh. “I would not discourage a hip flask or thermos of something warm, or warming.”
Depending on the weather, the group might try seining. Last winter they caught smelt, pipefish, tubesnouts and snailfish. Barsh said the main focus should be nudibranchs, and they plan to comb over the rocks on the far side of the island.
